Omnitel launches LTE

Lithuanian cellco Omnitel has launched LTE services in five cities. The TeliaSonera subsidiary has begun 4G services in the 1800MHz band in the downtown areas of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys. The company revealed that Huawei is providing the network infrastructure, with ZTE providing 4G modems which also support 2G and 3G. Omnitel is the largest wireless operator in Lithuania, claiming a 42.3% share of subscribers at the end of 2010.
