DNA upgrades speeds and extends broadband coverage on Welho network

7 Apr 2011

Finnish triple-play provider DNA Finland has announced that from May 2011 all customers in areas covered by the network of cable TV provider Welho, which DNA acquired last summer, will be able to access high speed internet services. DNA said that an ‘extensive upgrade’ to the cable operator’s infrastructure means that all of the more than 900,000 households in the network’s footprint will have access to broadband services, while it also revealed that downlink speeds over the cable network will be increased to up to 200Mbps, with entry level speeds starting from 10Mbps. Further, DNA has said that it will introduce ‘customer promises promoting customer satisfaction’, including a guaranteed speed range and the option to sign up for service without a fixed-term commitment. In addition to the upgrades to its cable infrastructure, DNA customers signing up to its ADSL-based services are set to benefit from a slew of new options, after the telco said it plans to update its product range. Commenting on the developments Pekka Vaisanen, DNA’s vice president of consumer business, noted: ‘Broadband use now means versatile consumption of entertainment services, so people have higher demands for broadband capacity … It is of utmost importance to us that our customers get the promised speed. Contrary to the industry’s standard practice, we also provide our customers with the opportunity to choose an open-ended subscription instead of a fixed-term contract.’
