Kyivstar increases OIBDA by 2.5%; combined subscriber base grows 1.5%

30 Mar 2011

Russian group Vimpelcom has presented the annual results of its combined mobile, fixed line and broadband operations in Ukraine under the Kyivstar umbrella, incorporating the companies Kyivstar, Ukrainian Radio Systems (URS) and Golden Telecom (Ukraine). Combined revenues of the Kyivstar group in 2010 decreased by 0.3% compared to the previous year, reaching UAH12.49 billion (USD1.55 billion), whilst operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) increased by 2.5% to UAH6.70 billion, despite total mobile, fixed and internet CAPEX being raised by 37.9% to UAH2.01 billion in the twelve months ended 31 December. The Russian parent group’s report states that Ukrainian telecoms market revenues were ‘stable’ in 2010 due to decreasing network access rates, whilst Vimpelcom calculated that it achieved synergies of around USD52 million in the year from the ongoing process of integrating its three 100%-owned Ukrainian operating companies. The Beeline trademark formerly used by URS and Golden for all mobile, fixed broadband and PSTN services is being swapped for the locally stronger Kyivstar brand.

Combined mobile, broadband and fixed voice customers reached 24.39 million at the end of 2010, up by 1.5% year-on-year, and average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) for the twelve-month period increased by 1.3% compared to 2009, up to UAH39.8. Revenues from fixed telephony decreased in 2010 by 8.6% to UAH544 million, whilst the number of fixed broadband internet subscribers (mainly based on direct fibre connections) grew by 52,000 in the fourth quarter, up by 143.5% compared to the same period of 2009, and turnover from residential broadband subscribers grew by 140% y-o-y.
