Samatel awards NGN contract to Verscom

11 Mar 2011

Next generation network (NGN) and service infrastructure provider Verscom Solutions has announced the signing of a contract with Omani telecoms provider Samatel to supply a next generation IP and voice network for the provision of managed services and strategic consultancy. CommsUpdate reported last month that Samatel was awarded Oman’s third Class 1 telecommunications licence, which authorises the operator to set up and operate a system to provide general international telecommunication services for 15 years. Samatel already operates in the Omani wireless market as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). The company, which is 100% Omani-owned, launched services for residential and business users in August 2010 over the network of second national operator Nawras.

In addition to offering international voice services to consumer and enterprise segments in Oman, Samatel will operate as an international gateway operator to aggregate inbound and outbound wholesale voice traffic for Oman. Verscom will supply and deploy a next-generation Class 4 core in Oman and time-division multiplexing (TDM)/packet-voice interconnect POPs in Europe. International voice service offerings for the retail market will be enabled on Verscom’s SIP-based service delivery platform. The vendor will also supply operational support systems/business support systems (OSS)/(BSS) platforms such as convergent billing and interconnect billing/routing.
