800MHz auction launched; finishing in two to ten working days

1 Mar 2011

The Swedish regulator, the Post & Telestyrelsen (PTS), launched as scheduled the auction for the 800MHz ‘digital dividend’ mobile spectrum band yesterday, with six technology- and service-neutral licences up for grabs. The watchdog said that it expects the bidding to take from two to ten working days to be completed, but it may take longer. An individual bidder can purchase up to two 2×10MHz concessions. The country’s four incumbent national cellular operators TeliaSonera, Telenor, Tele2 and Hi3G Access are all expected to participate to win 800MHz spectrum to augment their ongoing 2600MHz rollouts of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks.
