Digicel announces 3Q results

Jamaica-based, Irish-owned wireless group Digicel has announced its financial results for the three months ended 31 December 2010. Total subscribers across the group’s 32 markets were up 7% year-on-year to 11.5 million; Digicel saw growth in all of its major markets including El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea and Trinidad and Tobago, with data revenues doubling year-on-year. In terms of Digicel Group Limited – which comprises the 30 markets of the Caribbean, El Salvador and the Pacific – for the third quarter ended 31 December 2010, revenues were up 32% year-on-year to USD580 million while EBITDA rose by a similar percentage rate to USD240 million.

Key achievements in the quarter included the launch of mobile money services in Haiti under the ‘Tcho Tcho’ mobile brand, the launch of HSPA+ services in the French West Indies and breaking ground on the new Digicel global headquarters in downtown Kingston, Jamaica.
