Welho acquisition bolsters DNA’s results in 2010

On the back of its acquisition of cable TV and broadband provider SWelcom Television (Welho) from the Sanoma Group, which was completed in July 2010, Finnish triple-play provider DNA Finland has revealed that turnover in the last three months of 2010 rose to EUR182 million (USD248 million), up 10.2% against the same period a year earlier. Full-year revenue in 2010 benefited from the purchase in a similar fashion, with DNA reporting that revenues for the twelve-month period were EUR690.5 million, up 5.9% year-on-year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the company’s fourth fiscal quarter were EUR39.9 million, down from EUR49 million in 4Q09, a drop that DNA attributed to ‘the total cost of the extensive renewal of the customer information system, actions in response to intensifying competition and a non-recurring provision recognised in December due to cooperation negotiations’. EBITDA in FY2010 meanwhile was EUR182.1 million, representing an 8.9% y-o-y increase. The operator also reported a significant improvement in net profit, which was EUR5.9 million in the last three months of the year and EUR46 million in FY10, up from losses of EUR81.3 million and EUR56.5 million respectively.

At end-December 2010 DNA’s mobile subscriber base was 2.108 million, up from 1.947 million at the end of the previous year, while the number of fixed line accesses was boosted by the Welho acquisition, standing at 1.06 million at end-2010, up from 647,000 a year earlier.
