Thais to get CMMB mobile TV network

1 Feb 2011

A consortium has announced plans to deploy a mobile TV network based on the China Mobile Media Broadcast (CMMB) standard throughout Thailand, reports Cellular News. Domestic company IEC received permission last year to implement a mobile digital broadcasting television system in partnership with Thai state national broadcaster Mass Communication Organisation (MCOT) and China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The network will be installed by USA-based Telairity in partnership with CBC, starting in Bangkok in March 2011. CBC, a Chinese company approved by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), recently completed the rollout of the world’s largest CMMB mobile broadcast television coverage, with the capability to transmit signals reaching close to a billion people.
