Swedes put down roots for DTAC’s advanced network

27 Jan 2011

Swedish telecoms equipment provider Ericsson has signed a contract with Thai cellco DTAC to modernise its nationwide 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE network. The project is aimed at improving network capacity and enhancing speeds in preparation for upgrades based on W-CDMA/HSPA and LTE (4G). Ericsson will also manage the new network during the first year of operation. The contract could be worth around SEK1 billion (USD153 million) over a period of three to five years, Joacim Damgard, President of Ericsson Thailand, told Dow Jones Newswires. DTAC will start rolling out the new network this year, said Damgard, starting in Bangkok and other major cities.
