CAT’s energy project invigorated by ministers

24 Jan 2011

Thai newspaper The Nation reports that the country’s economic ministers have approved CAT Telecom’s THB2.73 billion (USD90 million) investment in a fibre-optic project in the Gulf of Thailand, aimed at supporting the energy sector. The network will link two submarine fibre-optic stations in Songkhla and Chon Buri with DWDM-based infrastructure to support transmission at speeds of over 160Gbps. It will mainly support communications between offshore petroleum rigs and onshore factories. The project is expected to take two years to complete.
