ProInversion postpones spectrum auction

30 Dec 2010

The private investment promotion agency, ProInversion, has postponed the process to award 25MHz of spectrum in the 1900MHz band which it had hoped would attract a fourth operator to enter the Peruvian mobile market. ProInversion telecoms project director, Jesus Guillen, told BNamericas that the auction timeline had been put back due to technical reasons. Guillen said ProInversion is due to approve the final version of the concession contract, which will be sent to interested operators. ‘We do not yet have a final date for the opening of technical and economic offers. We expect this could occur on 30 or 31 December, but it also could take place during the first days of January,’ he added.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database records that in April 2009 ProInversion launched a tender for 25MHz of bandwidth in the 1900MHz band on a national basis, but did not attract any bidders after the two prequalified companies – Kuwaiti firm HITS Telecom and Chilean-backed Americatel – declined to present economic offers due to the lack of financing as a consequence of the global economic crisis.
