According to Middle East technology news site ITP.net, Zain Jordan expects to complete deployment of its national 3G network by the end of this month and is preparing to launch a commercial service in February 2011. Dr Abdul Malek Al-Jaber, Zain Jordan’s CEO confirmed that his company has the green light from the government to deploy its 3G network, but added that the company can only launch commercially from February – at the end of Orange Jordan’s one year exclusivity period. He added that Zain Jordan is using the latest ‘advanced 3G upgrade’ that will allow for speeds of up to 42Mbps (HSPA+) in main urban areas. Zain is reported to be deploying about 1,200 3G base stations, at a cost this year of around USD150 million.
