TOT 3G tender delayed until January

1 Dec 2010

Thai state-run full-service telco TOT has rescheduled the launch of a 3G mobile network rollout tender from this month to January 2011 because the preparation of bidding documents is taking longer than anticipated, its president, Varut Suvakorn, said today. TOT had previously set 28 November as the deadline for completing terms of reference for awarding THB17.4 billion (USD584 million) worth of equipment and installation contracts for the nationwide expansion of its 2100MHz HSPA-based network, which currently covers the Bangkok area. Varut disclosed that the terms of reference are under examination by the Office of the Attorney General and are expected to be ready on 13 December, with the telco aiming to issue a contract to the winner of an electronic auction by February 2011. Domestic infrastructure providers to have expressed an interest in the tender include Samart, Loxley and Jasmine Telecom Systems, whilst foreign vendors are required to partner a local company in order to bid.
