Softbank launches dual-carrier HSDPA network

4 Nov 2010

Softbank Corp’s cellular arm Softbank Mobile today announced the launch of a new high speed mobile network in the country. Dubbed ‘Ultra Speed’, the dual-carrier High Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA) network has a theoretical download limit of 42Mbps – a six-fold increase on the rates offered by current 3G technology, and faster than either NTT DoCoMo’s LTE network (37.5Mbps) or KDDI’s pedestrian by comparison Win High Speed option at 9.2Mbps. In addition, Softbank is confident it will achieve 60% population coverage by June 2011, which again eclipses DoCoMo, which is promising 20% LTE coverage by March 2012.
