Yota selects Bridgewater Systems for WiMAX rollout; Peru next in line

26 Oct 2010

Yota Nicaragua, which launched its WiMAX services in capital city Managua on 1 July 2010, has announced that it has selected mobile personalisation company Bridgewater Systems to support the rollout of its national WiMAX network. The company will implement Bridgewater’s Service Controller technology, anchored by the firm’s Subscriber Data Broker. Yota’s network, which is the first 4G mobile internet network in Nicaragua, is currently only available in the capital city of Managua, although further expansion to Leon, Granada and Masaya is scheduled for the end of 2010.

David Sharpley, Senior Vice President of Bridgewater Systems commented: ‘Yota’s decision to deploy the Bridgewater Service Controller in Nicaragua is validation of our 4G leadership, with more than 60 WiMAX operators deploying our solutions worldwide to deliver personalised mobile broadband services. Yota is an innovative 4G operator that will benefit from the rapid and cost effective deployment of mobile broadband to consumers and businesses in Nicaragua and across Latin America’. Yota also confirmed that it is planning to deploy the Bridgewater Service Controller in Peru later this year, when it launches its WiMAX services there.
