Tele2 Netherlands’ BBned purchase gets final antitrust approval

6 Oct 2010

Sweden’s Tele2 has announced that its Dutch subsidiary, Tele2 Netherlands, has completed the acquisition of BBned from Telecom Italia following approval from the Dutch Antitrust Authority. As previously reported in July, Tele2 agreed a deal to acquire alternative operator BBNed for around SEK475 million (USD64.8 million) on a cash and debt free basis. The purchase strengthens Tele2’s position in the country’s broadband market, although it remains in fourth place in terms of subscribers, behind Zesko and UPC in second and third respectively, and market leader KPN. Telecom Italia put BBned up for sale at the end of 2008, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
