Lycamobile has announced the launch of services in its ninth country of operation, Spain, having inked a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal with local cellco Movistar, a subsidiary of Spanish giant Telefonica. At launch Lycamobile will offer its pre-paid service, offered under the ‘Pay As You Go SIM’ banner, to Spaniards, with the virtual operator announcing promotions to celebrate its launch including 50% additional credit with every pre-paid top-up, while on-net calls will be free of charge. Commenting on the inauguration of services, Milind Kangle, Lycamobile CEO, noted: ‘Our ninth launch firmly positions us as a global leader in the international call market, creating the largest footprint globally in our sector … We are now poised to accelerate on the momentum to expand the global footprint thanks to the over EUR100 million (USD137.9 million) investment made in people, process, technology and our brand. Our new mission is to acquire 20 million global customers by 2012.’
