Kulacom Jordan acquires local ISP Stream

29 Sep 2010

Kulacom Jordan, the SK Telecom-backed WiBro network operator, has announced that it has acquired Stream, a Jordanian internet service operator. The acquisition will allow the telco to provide home and business users with a wider range of high speed internet services at significantly reduced costs. Customers will have the option of selecting either Kulacom’s WiMAX-based network or Stream’s enhanced ADSL platform offering download speeds of up to 8Mbps. Hazim Alaeddin, Kulacom’s CEO, stated, ‘In order to meet the exponential demand for faster broadband speeds, we have decided to acquire Stream, an already established ADSL company. Our acquisition of Stream strategically readies us for the rapidly expanding and changing telecommunications environment in Jordan, allowing us to provide a wider range of products with a larger geographical footprint. Currently we offer 1Mbps and 8Mbps, but this will be upgraded to 50Mbps and 100Mbps and local loop unbundling will be finalised.’
