U Mobile upgrades first base station with Dual Carrier HSPA+

Malaysia’s smallest mobile network operator by subscribers, U Mobile, has announced that it has upgraded one of its base stations with Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology, allowing it to offer downlink speeds of up to 42Mbps. The operator said that the cell site, which is located in Berjaya Times Square in the capital Kuala Lumpur is ready to offer the increased download speeds, and it aims to expand the rollout of the technology to other areas within the Klang Valley over the next few weeks. Commenting on the development, Dr Kaizad Heerjee, U Mobile’s CEO, noted: ‘With the rollout of this new technology, U Mobile will be the first service provider in Malaysia to begin the deployment of a commercial mobile broadband service capable of delivering speeds of up to 42 Mbps using HSPA+. U Mobile’s subscribers will soon be able to enjoy superior mobile broadband service that offers high download speed and fast response time with the use of HSPA+ capable USB modem.
