Serbia unhappy about PTK privisation plan

27 Aug 2010

The Financial Times reports that Serbia’s government will view any attempt to privatise Post and Telecommunications Kosovo (PTK) as invalid. Kosovo’s ministry of finance and economy has invited pre-qualification bids for the telco by 13 September, but according to the newspaper Serbian officials stated this week that it ‘considers invalid any action taken … with regard to telecommunications … and especially regarding telecom property’. Oliver Ivanovic, minister of state in Serbia’s Kosovo ministry, has reportedly admitted that the Serbian government could not realistically block the PTK sale, but that it plans to complain to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva should the privatisation go ahead.
