True Move sees post-paid growth dry up

Thai full-service telco True Corp’s mobile subsidiary True Move has reported that in the first six months of 2010 its blended monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) fell to THB108 (USD3.38), compared to THB115 in full-year 2009 and THB130 the year before that. In January-June 2010 the cellco added 555,000 net new users – nearly all pre-paid – with post-paid user growth almost grinding to a complete halt as the volume of monthly contracts increased by just 7,000 in six months. In full-year 2009 the company had added 1.04 million mobile customers, down from 2.7 million net additions in 2008. At end-June 2010 92.5% of True’s 16.36 million customer base was pre-paid, up from 92.2% at the start of the year, having previously fallen gradually from 94.1% at end-2007.
