AIS posts 16% profit jump, reaches 30 million users

6 Aug 2010

Thailand’s largest cellco by users, AIS, has posted a 16% year-on-year rise in net profit to THB4.9 billion (USD152 million), driven by a 7% revenue hike which included a 36% boost to mobile data turnover. The results caused AIS to raise its 2010 revenue growth target to 5% from a previous forecast of 3%. AIS added 498,000 net new mobile subscribers in April-June 2010, taking its total to just over 30 million, including approximately eight million that are using non-voice services. Its take-up rate in Q2 was faster than AIS’s nearest rival DTAC, which added 352,000 customers in the quarter for a total of 20.64 million.
