Portuguese cableco Zon Multimedia has announced operating revenues of EUR216.2 million (USD282.4 million), for the three months ended 30 June 2010. This figure represents a 9.5% improvement on the EUR197.4 recorded in 2Q2009. In terms of net income Zon recorded profits of EUR13.6 million, up 41.7% from the EUR9.6 million earned in the same period in 2009. Despite improved quarterly figures, Zon’s half-year net revenues actually decreased 21.2% from EUR29.1 million to EUR22.9 million.
Zon’s revenues surged thanks to improved take up of its triple-play cable bundles, which recorded 571,900 users, up 46.3% from the 391,000 registered in 2Q2009. Zon reports that 49% of its total subscriber base are now signed up to triple play bundles. Zon’s broadband service added 14,700 net new additions in the second quarter to raise its total to 650,100, while its fixed voice services added 45,900 new users to increase the subscriber figure to 690,000. Zon’s EuroDOCSIS 3.0 upgrade of its HFC network is practically complete, and now passes 2.8 million households offering speeds of up to 200Mbps.
