Starcomms evolves to IP NGN with PT solution

29 Jul 2010

Network communications solutions provider PT (formerly known as Performance Technologies) has announced that Nigerian CDMA operator Starcomms has selected its SEGway Signalling solution to upgrade its network to a complete IP architecture. PT’s SEGway platform is a highly reliable signalling system that provides operators with a smooth migration to IP and SIP next-generation networks (NGN). The solution allows seamless interconnection of IP elements to existing equipment, reduces signalling complexity and provides the ability to view and manage the network from a central location. In addition to number portability, it enables message accounting and advanced routing. ‘PT’s versatile signalling platform places the core network in an advantageous position with regard to the looming number portability regulation in Nigeria,’ said Patt Rice, PT’s senior vice president of Sales, Marketing and Service, adding: ‘SEGway enables any operator to quickly, efficiently, and seamlessly introduce Mobile Number Portability to meet the December 2010 deadline.’ Starcomms has approximately 3.2 million CDMA customers in Nigeria, with a network covering 31 major cities, 22 States and covering 175 towns.
