Vodafone Portugal gives NSN new technology deal

2 Jul 2010

Vodafone Portugal has selected Finnish-German telecoms equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to enable seamless convergence of legacy circuit-switched services with new data services. NSN’s Service Broker solution enables the seamless convergence of services such as Personnel Greeting Voice services with IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services. The solution, based on an OpenCloud platform, will substantially cut the time and cost of launching new services. The Service Broker will also allow Vodafone to offer new real-time services without having to adapt other network elements, enabling continuity with established systems such as charging and billing. Pedro Salles, the head of the Vodafone Spain & Portugal customer team at NSN commented: ‘The introduction of new services to meet the demands of smartphone users in particular, presents a huge challenge to operators, since most operate a multi-vendor network that requires integration of various platforms. The Service Broker platform allows Vodafone Portugal to create new combinations of existing services as well as implement completely new ones’.
