DNA finalises Welho takeover

2 Jul 2010

Finnish alternative operator DNA Finland has completed the acquisition of SWelcom Television (Welho) from the Sanoma Group. With the deal having been approved by the Finnish Competition Authority, Welho was incorporated into DNA from 1 July 2010, making DNA the country’s largest cable TV operator by subscribers with an estimated market share of around 43%. Under the terms of the deal Welho’s current employees will be transferred to DNA, although the former’s customer base remain unaffected by the business transaction. Further, Sanoma has now become DNA’s second largest shareholder, with a 21% interest in the telco forming part of the payment for the Welho sale.
