CAT interested in running Thaicom satellite

21 Jun 2010

The Bangkok Post reports that state-run telco CAT Telecom is interested in the iPSTAR satellite business of Shin Corp subsidiary Thaicom, which it could use to broaden its mobile telephony and broadband internet operations. CAT president Jirayuth Roongsrithong said the firm was watching developments of the government’s ongoing negotiations to buy Thaicom from Shin, which is controlled by Temasek Holdings of Singapore. He said the iPSTAR satellite could broaden CAT’s nationwide CDMA mobile service, although he cautioned that Thaicom operates under a state concession and there are several amendments to the concession terms that remain unclear.
