FreshTel and Intel launching mobile WiMAX-ready laptops

9 Jun 2010

Ukrainian mobile broadband operator FreshTel expects to claim a first in the country with an imminent launch of mobile WiMAX-ready laptops in partnership with technology giant Intel. The manufacturer’s WiMAX adapters are integrated into four portable computers, fully equipped for use on FreshTel’s network. FreshTel intends to offer its users WiMAX-ready netbooks priced at less than USD300. The operator, whose shareholders include Icon Private Equity and Intel, launched its 3500MHz mobile WiMAX network in Kiev in September 2009 and is aiming to expand coverage to all major cities in 2010/11. PC vendors worldwide are beginning to equip new portable models with the 2010 Intel Core and Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 multiband wireless adapter. The adapter can be used in WiMAX networks in the 3500MHz band as well as the 2500MHz and 2300MHz ranges also common amongst WiMAX operators.
