Alca-Lu deploys EV-DO Rev B for SkyLink

12 May 2010

Russian mobile operator SkyLink has contracted Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev B network in the country. According to the French-US vendor’s press release, the all-IP Rev B solution will allow SkyLink to increase network capabilities without radio channel widening and will significantly increase data speed rates from base station to subscriber – up to 6.2Mbps – and also from subscriber to base station – up to 3.9Mbps. As part of the agreement, SkyLink is also planning to upgrade the EV-DO networks it currently operates in Moscow, St Petersburg and Krasnodar. Due to be deployed during 2010, Alca-Lu will equip the operator’s existing CDMA base stations in these regions with Rev B technology. Gulnara Khasyanova, SkyLink’s general director, said: ‘We have successfully been using Alcatel-Lucent’s mobile network equipment in ten licensed territories for years – covering amongst others our three largest and most important regions: Moscow, St Petersburg and Krasnodar. It is a priority for us to introduce EV-DO Rev B first in these regions.’
