Ghana sees 2013 as probable date for DTT switchover

10 May 2010

Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, the secretary for Ghana’s National Digital Broadcasting Migration Technical Committee (NDBMTC), says that the country plans to effect a switchover from analogue to digital terrestrial TV (DTT) broadcasting by 2013, two years ahead of the stipulated deadline of 2015. The switchover would support mobile reception of video, internet and multimedia data applications, as well as opening the door to new innovations such as Handheld TV Broadcast (DVB-H) alongside High-Definition Television (HDTV) whilst also providing greater bandwidth to existing mobile, fixed and radio communications services.
