AIS’ net profit climbs 8.8%, revenues up 2.3%

Thailand’s mobile market leader by subscribers, Advanced Info Service (AIS), has reported that its net profit for the three months ended 31 March 2010 climbed 8.8% year-on-year to THB4.97 billion (USD153.5 million), on revenues that rose 2.3% to THB26.9 billion. The cellco said that a rise in mobile internet revenue helped offset stagnating deamnd for its voice telephony services. Data service revenue rose 36.6% year-on-year in the first quarter, and the number of data users rose to 5.7 million from 5.3 million in the previous quarter, and 4.7 million in 1Q09. AIS had a total of 29.5 million subscribers as at 31 March 2010 after adding a net 694,000 pre-paid and 42,000 post-paid customers in the first three months of the year.
