Vodafone Portugal looks to LTE

16 Apr 2010

During a demonstration of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in Porta, Jorge Capelas Fernandes, head of technology at Vodafone Portugal, announced the operator wants to implement LTE services by the end of 2011. However, Fernandes said the deployment of LTE depends on the national communications authority ANACOM releasing more radio spectrum. TeleGeography’s 4G research services reports ANACOM launched a public consultation on rights of use of frequencies in the 2.6GHz band, suitable for LTE, in December 2008. The report was published six months later, although when exactly the country will award licences remains undecided at the present time.
