MNP working committee says August deadline unlikely to be met

7 Apr 2010

Premon Pinskul, chairman of the mobile number portability (MNP) working committee representing five Thai operators, said yesterday that cellcos cannot meet the August deadline for MNP set last week by the regulator. According to local newspaper The Nation, Pinskul believes that a supplier will be selected this month to install the MNP system and clearinghouse, which will take until August. The clearinghouse would then need three months to complete system testing, taking the whole process into November. The MNP committee says that it hopes the regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), understands the situation. However, if the NTC still insists on the August deadline, the operators will be fined.
