True Move to raise annual spending for 2G and 3G development

31 Mar 2010

True Move, Thailand’s third largest mobile operator by subscribers, plans to spend between THB3 billion and THB4 billion (USD92 million-USD123 million) on its networks this year, up from THB2.5 billion in 2009, the Bangkok Post reports. Investment will go into improving the quality and capacity of its 2G network and increasing the number of 3G base stations on its trial 850MHz network in Bangkok to 500, plus the rollout of 100 base stations in the provinces. Additional monies will be set aside to prepare for the arrival of number portability. The strategic investment also sees True gearing up for what it calls a ‘non-voice war’ for the mobile internet market this year. The cellco currently has 100,000 customers using its 3G trial service in the capital, which was launched almost a year ago.
