Mobistar gets regulatory thumbs-up to buy KPN’s Belgian fixed line unit

26 Mar 2010

Mobistar, Belgium’s second largest mobile network operator by subscribers, has been granted regulatory approval for its acquisition of the local business telecoms unit of Holland’s KPN, Reuters reports. Under the terms of the approval it is understood that Mobistar must retain those wholesale services currently offered to other operators for 18 months, while it must also continue the resale of broadband access under the same terms as prior to the acquisition. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in November 2009 it was announced that KPN would sell its fixed line business-to-business carrier activities in Belgium, including its fibre-optic network, for EUR65 million (USD97 million).
