19 Mar 2010

Canadian wireless start-up Public Mobile has opened 25 retail stores in Toronto and Montreal in advance of a network launch in those two cities planned for mid-May, reports Reuters. The newcomer aims to focus on low-cost, no-frills services, and is offering a contract-free plan with unlimited local calls and SMS texting within US/Canada for CAD40 (USD39.60) per month. The company says it will have about 50 stores open by mid-May and plans to expand services across Ontario and Quebec through 2010 and 2011. Public Mobile is backed by OMERS Private Equity, Columbia Capital, M/C Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures, Rho Ventures, Ignition Partners and Kensington Capital Partners.
