Canadian cableco Shaw Communications is planning to launch a trial of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology allowing peak speeds of up to 1Gbps, ten times faster than the 100Mbps top speed of its premium cable-based High Speed Nitro Internet service, currently available in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Shaw says it will be the first provider in Canada to trial Gigabit internet access and expects to launch the trial in April 2010.
