Eircom announces restructuring plan and shift in focus

12 Feb 2010

Eircom plans to implement a major reorganisation of the company, including a shift in business focus towards the open embrace of wholesale broadband opportunities and fibre upgrades for its mobile base stations. SiliconRepublic.com cites new incoming CEO Paul Donovan and Terry Clontz, the MD of new majority owners Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT) as saying the former monopoly is poised to embark on a major overhaul that will make it ‘a force in wholesale, global IP transit, digital television and next generation mobile’. Commenting on the plan, Clontz said STT is taking a long term view on Eircom. ‘We are strategic long-term investors. Global Crossing, which a lot of people wouldn’t touch with a bargepole, but we saw opportunity there. We went after it.’
