BT Ireland enters the black

5 Feb 2010

BT Ireland turned a profit in the Republic for the first time in the year to the end of March 2009, according to accounts seen by The Irish Times. The paper reports that the accounts in question cover the UK group’s main trading units in Ireland: BT Communications Ireland Group Ltd; BT Net Ireland Ltd (BT Net); and BT Communications Ireland Ltd (BT CIL). Taken together, the accounts show a pre-tax profit of EUR2.13 million (USD3.18 million) compared to a pre-tax loss of EUR21.3 million for the twelve months to the end of March 2008. The paper quotes Chris Clark, managing director of BT Ireland, as saying the telecoms group had been focusing on ‘changing the shape of the business strategically and driving cost out of the business’.
