Vimpelcom – Kyivstar merger on track for 1H10 completion

28 Jan 2010

Boris Nemsic, CEO of Vimpelcom has told Reuters that the proposed merger between the Russian cellco and Ukrainian firm Kyivstar is on course to be completed by mid-2010. Nemsic said: ‘We are hoping this will happen in the first half, the end of the first half of this year, the process is ongoing, everything is going on really as it should be.’ As reported by CommsUpdate on 5 October 2009, Vimpelcom shareholders Telenor and Alfa Group agreed to combine common assets in the two cellular operators to create a new US-listed operator, ending years of legal disputes between the two firms. The united company, which will be based in the Netherlands, will provide integrated mobile services to consumers in Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries, as well as Georgia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
