Tigo offloads 750 towers to Helios Towers Ghana

26 Jan 2010

Millicom International Cellular (MIC) yesterday announced that its Ghanaian subsidiary Millicom Ghana (Tigo) has agreed a deal to sell around 750 towers to Helios Towers Ghana (HTG), a direct subsidiary of Helios Towers Africa. Upon completion of the deal Tigo will retain a minority interest in HTG, its press statement read. As a further strand to the deal, Tigo Ghana and HTG have entered into a long-term leasing agreement whereby the latter will provide the cellco with wireless communications towers, including a build-to-suit agreement to support the company’s wireless networks. According to the statement, HTG will now seek to strike similar agreements with other operators in Ghana.
