OPTA fines KPN for giving wrong discounts to wholesale clients

12 Jan 2010

The Dutch telecoms watchdog OPTA has fined former monopoly operator KPN Telecom (also known as Royal KPN) EUR500,000 (USD725,240) for applying the wrong discounts to some of its wholesale customers. In a statement to explain its ruling, the regulator said KPN had ‘selectively provided wholesale clients with extra discounts for international phone calls in the period between 2006 and the beginning of 2008 to win back customers from competitors.’ KPN intends to appeal OPTA’s ruling.
