Sonaecom and Vodafone reveal fibre JV

Portuguese operators Sonaecom and Vodafone have revealed plans to collaborate on the construction, management, maintenance and operation of a fibre-optic next generation network (NGN). The two firms will hold an equal stake in a new company created to deploy and operate the NGN, which will provide backhaul for the networks of the two operators as well as offering services to third parties. In a statement Sonaecom said: ‘It is the intention of both companies that the NGN will be a network open to all interested parties who wish to access it and compete in the electronic communications of the future.’
