Portuguese cableco Zon Multimedia has reported a 125% year-on-year growth in its triple-play customer base, with 435,900 subscribers to the service at the end of September 2009. Strong customer additions throughout the firm’s business have driven net profit for the third quarter of 2009 to EUR11.9 million (USD17.75 million), up 21.8% from EUR9.7 million in the same period a year earlier. Revenues for the three months ended 30 September 2009 were up to EUR206 million, from EUR189.8 million in Q308. Operating costs grew from EUR126.7 million to EUR134.8 million year-on-year, meanwhile, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) climbed to EUR70.2 million, up from EUR63.1 million. Zon continued to expand its network in the third quarter of 2009, passing 3.08 million homes at the end of September 2009, up from 2.82 million a year earlier. The company ended the quarter with 594,400 broadband customers (up 21,900 quarter-on-quarter), 529,200 fixed line accesses (up 60,600), 53,900 mobile subscribers (up 20,600), 914,800 basic TV customers (up 6,600) and 613,100 digital TV subscribers (up 38,200).
