Russian WiMAX group Yota has announced that it expects to complete the deployment of its Nicaraguan network in December 2009, BNamericas reports, citing company business development director, Yegor Ivanov. As reported by CommsUpdate on 1 October, the Yota consortium, which combines Russian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan capital, beat three rival firms in the tender process to claim the fixed-wireless access (FWA) and internet concession in the 2.5GHz-2.69GHz band. Ivanov said that the company will provide initial coverage in capital Managua, with plans in place to later expand the WiMAX infrastructure to other regions in the country. The executive added: ‘In Peru, we also won a tender and we are now in the process of creating the local subsidiary. We expect to conclude this in November and launch the network in Lima by end-2010.’
