SFO launches investigation into Vodafone sale contract

3 Nov 2009

Ghanaian news agency Financial Intelligence reports the country’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has launched a preliminary investigation into the sale of national PTO Ghana Telecom (GT) to the UK’s Vodafone Group. It is understood the SFO has begun an independent fact-finding exercise by contacting all the institutions connected with the deal asking them to provide information. Those thought to have been contacted already include, not surprisingly, Vodafone Ghana, the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC), as well as key individuals who are believed to have played important roles in the transaction. The SFO has also requested the Ministry of Communications provide it with a copy of the review committee report to help it in its investigations.
