Net profit falls 11% y-o-y at DTAC, but up 19% q-o-q

29 Oct 2009

Thai cellco DTAC, a subsidiary of Norway’s Telenor, has reported an 11% drop in net income year-on-year to THB1.63 billion (USD49 million) in the three months to the end of September 2009, although the figure rose 19% from the THB1.37 billion posted the previous quarter. Similarly, revenues were down 3% year-on-year but up 1% quarter-on-quarter, and EBITDA also showed a 6% q-o-q rise, as the company showed signs of turning a corner after a tough period affected by the economic downturn. DTAC’s cellular subscriber base reached 19.3 million at end-September after it added 70,000 new users in the third quarter. In other news, DTAC said it did not expect the Thai telecoms regulator to meet a previously announced December deadline to launch a 3G licence auction, which is looking increasingly likely to take place in early 2010.
