Govt approves landline tender

According to online news site B92, the government of Serbia has adopted documents that will enable a tender to be called to select a second landline operator within a month. Telecoms minister Jasna Matic said that she expects the whole procedure to be completed by the end of the year.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database Telekom Srbija is currently the sole fixed line operator in Serbia, with 2,995,223 main lines in service at the end of 2008, translating into a teledensity of 40.8%.
