Pakistani High Court orders against sale of PTCL assets

30 Sep 2009

According to Pakistani news source The Nation, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has delayed a final hearing in a constitutional petition against the privatisation of majority state-owned Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd (PTCL). The petition itself was filed by the PTCL labour union president Haji Khan Bhatti. The court has ordered PTCL not to sell off or mortgage any of its assets after claims by the petitioner’s counsel that the operator is paying outstanding debts either by divesting or mortgaging its assets. The date of the final hearing has been set as 27 October.
