TFL reports stable fixed line base

9 Sep 2009

Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) says that despite the popularity of cellular and satellite communication technology, its fixed line base remains stable with 150,000 customers currently – on a par with figures reported last year. The company attributes the situation in part to the introduction of fixed-wireless services which now gives fixed telephony customers a choice of service. Going forward, TFL is expanding its fixed-wireless offering to ensure that it has a sustainable and profitable business in the long term. Despite the technological advances of recent years, the incumbent says that many of its customers, especially those in rural areas, prefer fixed telephony services which tend to offer lower call rates and offer better coverage than cellular networks.
